  • Do I need riding experience to join the team?
All are welcome on our team! We have had anywhere from international riders to members who had never touched a horse before joining.
  • Are there tryouts to join?
Nope! We don't have tryouts, all you need is enthusiasm for the sport. We try our best to allow as many members to show who are interested.
  • What do I need to ride?
Great question! This will covered in detail at the first meetings of each semester, but you'll need closed toed shoes that aren't slippery (preferably riding-specific boots), a riding-specific helmet, and long pants that are stretchy (beware of jeans!). We do not provide show clothing and can provide more information as to IDA expectations of attire as requested. If you need help finding any riding clothes or equipment, our officers and other members can help you get in touch with the several tack stores in the area!
  • Does it cost money to join the team?
Members pay a membership fee each semester and for their lessons. If you need any riding equipment, you'll also need to purchase that yourself. Showing costs, however, are covered by the team!
  • How often are meetings?
Meetings are generally bi-weekly, but there are plenty of events such as socials, fundraising, and more in between meetings too!
  • Do I need my own horse?
Nope, in fact, most of our members don't have their own horses. We have over 20 horses that we are lucky to learn from, all of which have are differnet in their training and levels.
  • How does IDA showing work?
At the beginning of each showing day, horses from the host school are drawn at random so you'll be riding a horse you've never ridden before. For this reason, our coach swtiches up the horses we ride to prepare. At each show, there is the option of riding a test (series of patterns), Dressage Seat Equitation (in a group of competitors doing a variety of moves), or both in some cases. The levels of riding are introductory, lower training, upper training, and first level. For more information, feel free to contact us or search the IDA website: https://www.teamdressage.com/
  • Do I need a car?
We work hard to pair you with other members who have a car and can give a ride to the barn for your weekly lessons. No need to bring a car!
